Big Bangs Feeding Program
BIG BANGS HUNGRY TO KICK OFF FEEDING PROGRAM
The BIG BANGS have partnered with a local community in Philippines to feed hundreds of underprivileged kids
Canberra, Friday 6 November 2009:
The BIG BANG BALLERS, an international NGO founded by former Australian Youth Ambassador for Development and current Young Australian of the Year Nominee Pierre Johannessen, have initiated a feeding program distributing food to over 120 underprivileged children in Illigan City, Philippines each week.
Creating a partnership with a small local church in the area, the BIG BANGS are providing nutritious meals to some of Philippines most poverty stricken kids every Sunday.
“Delivering healthy, wholesome meals to kids in our target communities is a step towards the long-term sustainability of our programs. In areas where children are often lucky to have even one meal a day, providing a guaranteed weekly supply of quality, nutritious food contributes immensely to the health and well-being of the kids we run camps for. We run all our activities, including this feeding program, through our local committees and local communities, building the capacity of each community to provide for and take care of themselves.
I am very proud of the Big Bangs Philippines, and can’t wait for the expansion of this fantastic program.”
Pierre Johannessen, CEO, BIG BANGS
Previously, the church has relied on donations from the local community; however, the BIG BANGS’ sponsorship of the feeding program will ensure that funding is quadrupled.
“Since the Big Bangs Philippines Tour in September the local Big Bangs Philippines committee has been working hard to continue our programs and achieve the goals of the organisation. In the short space of time since the formation of the committee, I am proud to see just how much of a difference they are making in their local communities. From running camps at local schools and orphanages to participating in basketball tournaments and partnering with local community groups to deliver much needed programs, such as our weekly feeding program, the Big Bangs Philippines committee has been inspirational in their drive and passion to making Big Bangs a success within the communities we serve.
The future looks bright and together we can achieve even greater results. Team is everything, after all, and the Big Bangs Philippines committee has certainly formed a blossoming alliance with the local community in tackling youth poverty and social disadvantage from a variety of angles.”
