Finishing Division 1 with a (Big) Bang – Bangladesh

Finishing the Division 1 League With A Bang/ Gregarious Deserved Champs
The Flameboys (run by the Big Bangs) won their last 5 games of the league to finish 11-3 and in sole possession of 4th place out of 15 teams.  It was a tough journey as they battled through injuries, exams, work, crappy refs, traffic, and humid weather to finish respectably.  They started off slowly going 1-2 in the 1st 3 games, won 5 in a row, lost a tough one, and then finished off strong with another 5 wins in …

Ballin’ In Bangladesh, Under-17 Charity League

In March of this year, the Big Bangs organized an under-17 basketball league.
All the participants were kids who were no older than juniors in high school.  These kids were desperate for a tournament which wasn’t being dominated by seniors, college students and adults (sadly that includes the Big Bangs).  It was no fun for them to register in a tournament just to lose every game by 50 points or more.  These kids wanted fair and even competition and the Big Bangs gave it to them.
8 teams participated in a season, …

Article from Daily Star, Bangladesh

The following is an article from the Daily Star, Dhaka’s biggest newspaper.  Article is also available here.
The “Big Bangs” is a fairly recognizable name in the Dhaka sports scene. The best basketball players around Dhaka all try out for this all-star team, hoping their skills are good enough to earn them a spot. However, the “Seven Nation Army” of basketball is not just a place where kids show off skills. The team is also involved in many humanitarian projects, such as building houses and basketball courts for children around the …

Small Bangs played for Mastermind School (Karar) and Green Herald School (Walid and Angelo).  Maple Leaf won the finals in a great game against Mastermind.

Charity Tournament at ISD, Bangladesh

On the 31st of January, Faraz hosted a 4-on-4 charity tournament at his high school, the International School of Dhaka (ISD).  With the help of his teachers and the Big Bangs, the one-day event was a great success.  13 teams participated in the tournament, 3-point contest, shooting stars challenge, and elimination games.  Even the girls got into the action as a 4-on-4 game was arranged for them.
Around 13,500 taka (approximately $200) was raised from that day.  The only hiccup of the day was that the Big Bangs lost in a …

Sideline From A Big Bangs Camp

Very brief snapshot of some of the side things that happen at a Big Bangs Camp.
The girls treat us to a beautiful song, which Julien then attempts with varying degrees of success… Rodrigue and Junad run a scrimmage on one court, while Asif and Julien take another 2 teams through a game on the far side.
Big Bangs camps entail not only basic skills and tactics, but also place heavy emphasis on teamwork, trust, loyalty, unselfishness and team spirit. Camps are tailored for the audience – where necessary, we run leadership …
